Frequently asked questions: What to consider when purchasing a seascape painting?
When choosing to purchase an Irish seascape painting, consider the following factors:
- Wall Size: Ensure the painting is proportionate to the wall where it will be hung. A common rule is for the artwork to be ½ to ¾ the width of the wall or furniture where it will be placed.
- Room Layout: Consider how the painting will interact with other elements in the room i.e the furniture. I have laid out some examples to help in this regard and you may view more samples on the individual shop pages.
- Landscape Format: Since seascapes often usually broad vistas, a landscape format (with the longest side horizontal) is typically the most effective.
- Panoramic Views: For expansive ocean views, consider a panoramic format for example a diptych in order to emphasise the breadth of the scene.
- Scale and Drama: Larger paintings can create a more dramatic effect, while smaller ones may offer intimacy and detail.
- Style and Technique: The size can influence the style of the painting; larger sizes often allow for looser brushstrokes and more expressive techniques.
- Framing and Display: Larger paintings may require custom framing, which can add to the overall cost.
- Portability and Storage: Smaller paintings are easier to transport and store.
