Setting out on our Travel Adventure to Nepal
A trip to Nepal in November 2014 proved to be very special and inspirational. In order to preserve these great memories, I would like to share some of these moments with you. I also intend using my photos as inspiration to create new paintings and I hope that you will join me on this journey.
Setting out on our journey – Dublin to Nepal
Check in at Dublin airport for a seven and a half hour flight to Abu Dhabi. Then, a five-hour stop-over contained within the confines of a very busy Abu Dhabi airport. Then follows another a four and a half hour flight to Kathmandu in Nepal
The beginnings of our art and travel adventure in Nepal.
The winter cycle kicks in back in Ireland and so the clock goes back one hour – Lose three hours flying West to East – Time changes yet again as we arrive at our final destination – Kathmandu!
Feeling listless, punchy, sleep deprived, I wonder:
Am I older or younger right now?
Bustled away to our hotel, I peer out of the bus we are travelling in to absorb my first impressions of the exotic allure of Kathmandu, the capital of Nepal. Sadly, like most south-east Asian cities, I am greeted with heavy pollution, over-crowed streets, traffic jams, the sounds of horns ‘beeping’ as motorbikes, cars, buses, pedal carts, all vie for their space on the torn up road surfaces.
The people protect themselves by wearing masks to guard against dust and heavy smog. This smog prevents me from viewing the world’s highest mountain ranges of the Himalayas that line the horizon of Kathmandu.
So pleased that our hotel offers the comforts we have become so familiar with – a warm bed , hot running water and most of all …….
Sleep! Precious Sleep!
Time is a vacuüm!
