Adventure to Nepal – Nagarkot
Nagarkot is over 2,000 m above sea level with amazing views of the Himalayas and surrounding landscapes. We were to stay just one night in Nagarkot and the highlight would be to watch the sunrise and sunset over the Himalayas. All the ranges of the Himalayas from North East to South West, including the peak of Everest can be seen from this spot.
When we arrived at our hotel, Club Himalaya, Nagarkot, it was like stepping into the scene of a 1950’s movie. We explored the grounds of the hotel which was nestled among tall trees. The day was overcast and misty and the sunset dared to pass us by as if to say – this was no big deal!
The next morning, we had a cruel call awakening at 5.30am. Out we went to a large veranda in front of the hotel. Cold and damp, we huddled together filled with anticipation and a certain vulnerability in wait of the spectacular sunrise over the Himalayas.
Funny, it reminded me of so many times when American guests would come to visit Ireland and travel west to see the magnificent Cliffs of Moher, only to find that they are covered in mist and see nothing at all.
There we stood in the mist and soft rain, cold and tired, cameras at the ready – searching, waiting for the magic to appear – nothing!
